Here’s Why 100 Photos a Month Might Not Be Enough

Here’s Why 100 Photos a Month Might Not Be Enough

SPYPOINT’s free photo transmission plan provides 100 photos a month for each camera. This is a great way to try out cellular trail cameras or to start monitoring a potential new hunting site for activity—if it isn’t a particularly busy spot, this can be more than enough photos to get the intel you need. However, a 100-photo per month limit can quickly become frustrating when you’re preparing for your hunt in earnest. Here are a couple compelling reasons why.

Bucks Aren’t the Only Things That Trigger Your Cameras

It’s thrilling to see photos of your targets and gather data on their movements, but they won’t be the only things to show up in your photo gallery. SPYPOINT pro-staff member Greg Ochoa has four examples of things that regularly trigger unwanted photos and can eat up your 100-photo limit quickly.

1. Weather conditions: Adverse weather conditions, such as heavy rain or strong winds, can lead to false triggers. These environmental factors can cause the camera to capture numerous images of moving foliage or rain droplets.

2. Insect activity: Bugs, especially during warmer months, can be a significant nuisance. Insects landing on the camera lens or flying in front of the motion sensor can trigger the camera.

3. Human activity: Public lands are frequented by various outdoor enthusiasts, including hikers, campers, and other hunters.

4. Untargeted animals: Setting up bait sites or monitoring scrapes can attract a wide range of untargeted animals. Squirrels, raccoons, and other non-game animals can trigger the camera, consuming precious photo slots that could have been used to capture images of your target species.

Once over your limit, it takes special effort to learn what you’ve missed

The factors listed above could cause you to use up 100 photos in days rather than weeks or the full month. Thankfully, your SPYPOINT cameras will continue taking photos, but you’ll have to go out and retrieve those SD cards to learn what you missed—causing you to lose out on the convenience of using a cellular trail camera, experience delays in getting valuable data, and unnecessarily disturb your hunting area. Consistent photo transmission keeps you informed on patterns and behavior changes, providing valuable information on where, when, and how you are most likely to find success. Any gap in communication could mean missing out on information essential to making or breaking your hunt.

For deer, elk, and moose hunters, this can be especially frustrating in the late summer and throughout the fall. This is when bucks and bulls reach their full potential, giving you a clear picture of which animals are frequenting your area and which ones you may want to target when the season opens.

Small investments pay off in a big way

Luckily, if more than 100 photos a month are needed, upgrading your transmission plan is surprisingly affordable. A Basic annual plan provides you with 250 photos for just $4.00 per month, and an Unlimited annual plan is only $10.00 per month. When you consider how much time and expense you invest in your hunts, isn’t it worth a few dollars to go into your season fully prepared?
