SPYPOINT was proud to help veterans come together for some well-earned R&R at another successful outdoor excursion last November led by Camp Valor, a veteran-led 501(c)(3) non-profit.
Camp Valor is an organization dedicated to helping ill, injured, wounded, and disabled veterans and their families keep on living after they have served their country. Camp Valor knows that these individuals - referred to honorably by staff and volunteers as warriors - are never alone on the battlefield, and their mission is to ensure they aren’t alone when they come home, either.
Major John T. Schwent, JR., USMC (Ret) and the founder/executive director of Camp Valor, started the group in 2013. He’s spent the 11 years since then committed to finding opportunities to engage warriors and make a difference in their lives.
The SPYPOINT team was grateful for the privilege to participate in Camp Valor’s most recent event, held outside Kansas City, at the start of Missouri’s rifle season. Months before the excursion, SPYPOINT donated four FLEX-S cameras, four FLEX-M cameras, two FLEX G-36 cameras, six SPLB-10 Compact Solar Panels, 10 LIT-22 rechargeable lithium battery packs, and 25 SPYPOINT caps – as well as product and plan discounts – to help Camp Valor set up a mobile scouting network and provide the warriors with a head start on their hunt.
Camp Valor shared the camera footage and streamed duck, turkey, and deer movements to the guys for months before the event, helping them get a lay of the land, gain key insights and—most importantly—get stoked for the trip.
Attendees began pouring in on November 15th to sight their scopes, meet with guides, and confirm their zeros before a few long days in the mix. Camp Valor and its extensive team of volunteer backers completely covered the warriors' travel, lodging, and meals, ensuring everyone could enjoy the weekend and focus on nothing but hunting. Over a hundred people including veterans, guides, volunteers, sponsors, donors, and family members, participated in the hunt.
Everybody involved had one specific goal: get our warriors outside. After 13 years of working with veterans and a lifetime of service, Major Schwent told us, “There’s just nothing quite like connecting in the outdoors, breathing that fresh air, out in the woods where there's nobody but you, [your guides,] the animals and the trees.”
The event aimed to give each warrior at least one moment of peace and happiness, the kind familiar to any hunter or outdoorsman who has spent significant chunks of time deep in the woods. Those are the moments that can truly ignite a spark and change a life for the better.
SPYPOINT thoroughly enjoyed having the opportunity to participate in this awesome weekend, and we’d like to thank Major John Schwent and the entire Camp Valor team for inviting us to get involved in this great cause. We look forward to continuing to work with Camp Valor to inspire as many individuals as possible with the joy that can be found in the great outdoors.
