Troubleshooting

My camera seems to behave abnormally:

  1. Connect your camera to a computer using the USB cable supplied with purchase.
  2. Locate the removable disk corresponding to your camera. A list of devices currently connected to your computer is available by clicking on the "Computer" icon, usually located on your desktop.
  3. Once you have identified the correct removable disk, right click on the removable disk icon and select the "Format ..." option in the menu.
  4. A new window appears, click the "Restore Default Settings" button and check the "Quick Format" box. Then press start to begin formatting the internal memory of your Spypoint camera. (This will completely erase the photos or videos contained in your camera.)
  5. When the dialog box "Format Complete" appears, click OK and disconnect your camera.
  6. If you use an SD card, follow the same procedure but by inserting the SD card into the card reader of your Spypoint camera.

My camera doesn't take any photos:

  1. Detection problems can be the result of a bad installation. The optimal installation is as follow. About 3 feet from the ground or at the animal’s body height. We don’t recommend placing it lower or higher because legs, necks or heads don’t emit as much heat and it is more difficult to trigger the sensor. The camera should be installed between 25 and 35 feet from the targeted area, aiming parallel to the ground and the sensitivity dial at about ¾ of the way to the maximum. It is also best to aim the camera to the North to avoid back lighting and false detection. Backlighting will cause bad picture quality and if sunrays directly hit the optic lens, it can damage the CMOS sensor. The heat of the sunrays can also cause false detection when hitting the Fresnel lens in front of the PIR sensor.
  2. To make sure the camera is detecting correctly, place it in test mode and wave your hand in front of the sensor, the light on the front should blink every time the camera is triggered. If it does then set the sensitivity dial at ¾ to the maximum and walk from side to side in front of the camera up to 50 feet away and again the light should blink every time the camera detects you.
  3. Make sure that your camera is not set to work only during the day or night. (IR-A, IR-B, IR-C, PRO-X) Make sure that the operating schedule you programmed is correct. (Tiny, Tiny-W)

My camera takes black pictures:

My camera doesn't power up:

  1. Try to power up the camera with brand new alkaline batteries, 12V external battery or power supply, and Lithium battery pack (if applicable) to find out if the problem is not the cause of a too low power source.
  2. Make sure that you don?t use NiMh rechargeable batteries (AA or C) because they can only supply 1.2V instead of 1.5V, like the Alkaline, when they are fully charged. A camera needs at least 7V to work properly.
  3. Measure your batteries’ voltage with a voltmeter. Over 1.35V is good.
  4. Check if the 2 lithium battery contacts (LIT-09) are touching correctly (top right and top left). If not, gently pry the metal plate to make good contact.
  5. For the IR-5, IR-6, IR-8, IR-10, PRO-X and PRO-X Plus, make sure that the switch inside the battery compartment is set properly. It must be set to Alkaline when using AA batteries and to Rechargeable with the Spypoint lithium battery pack otherwise the camera won’t power on.

I can't view my Spypoint photos with a digital camera:

My camera takes photos but there are no animals on them:

  1. Make sure that your camera is not programmed for Time Lapse mode. (IR-10, Tiny and Tiny-W) The Time Lapse mode takes pictures at regular intervals so it is possible that you get pictures where there is nothing on them.
  2. Make sure that there is anything too close in front of the camera where you install it that could make it trigger like leaves, branches or tall grass heated by the sun and moved by the wind. In that case you would have to either remove the branches, leaves or tall grass that causes the false triggers or simply relocate your camera. Setting the sensitivity dial too high can also cause the camera to false trigger by picking up any small movement.
  3. Make sure the camera is not installed too close from where the animals pass. If the animal has the time to cross the field of view of the camera before it could take a picture, you will get a blank picture. Remember that the farther you are from the detection zone, the wider is the field of view. We recommend installing the camera between 25 and 35 feet of the detection zone.

The batteries only last a few days:

  1. Make sure you're not using NiMh batteries because they don't supply enough voltage.
  2. Make sure that the camera is not set to electricity mode with AA batteries, lithium battery pack or a 12V external battery. The electricity mode must only be used with a 12V AC/DC power supply because the camera always stays awake and continuously consumes energy.

My camera doesn't detect my SD card:

  1. The IR-A, IR-B, IR-C and FL-A models can't support the SDHC (High Capacity) card format.
  2. Make sure that you don't use an SD card with less than 64Mb of memory space. Our cameras can't detect cards that small in capacity.
  3. Blow compressed air into the SD card slot. Sometimes dirt or dust gets into the slot and keep the pins from making good contact and blowing compressed air cleans the pins.

The LCD screen shows FUL or LOC:

  1. Make sure that the SD card is not actually full or locked.
  2. Blow compressed air into the SD card slot. Sometimes dirt or dust gets into the slot and keep the pins from making good contact and blowing compressed air cleans the pins.

Windows shows me a message saying "Drawing failed" when I'm trying to view my pictures on the computer.
